Clare Mulley tells a gripping story of the Second World War heroism of Ilzbieta Zawacka. She reached Britain early in the war as an emissary of the Polish Home Army command. Here she joined the elite Polish resistance force associated with the British Special Operations Executive. After training in espionage skills she was parachuted into Nazi-occupied Poland.

There she took a leading role in the Warsaw Uprising and in the liberation of Poland. Her life was one of extraordinary risk taking in the interests of the Polish nation.

The Financial Times wrote of the book: ‘Written with controlled, unsentimental eloquence and style, [Agent Zo] offers unique and original insights into the vital, if previously unsung role of women in the defence of their homeland.’
