Craig Brown, one of the wittiest of British writers, gives a vivid and prize-winning account of the lives of the Beatles and their main song writers John Lennon and Paul McCartney. One of the most successful musical groups of all time, the Beatles built their reputation playing clubs in the home city of Liverpool and in Hamburg, Germany. Brown’s account is a highly readable hotch potch of interviews, announcements, and stories reflecting the Beatles’ frenetic lives and musical achievements. The judges of the Baillie Gifford Prize described the book as ‘a joyous, irreverent, insightful celebration of the Beatles [which has] re-invented the art of biography’.
