Queen Elizabeth II (born 1926) took the throne in 1952 when her father George VI died of multiple illnesses at the early age of 56. The new Queen was only 25. She served as Queen for 70 years until until her death at the age of 96 in 2022.

Craig Brown (born 1957) was educated at Eton and the University of Bristol. He is a writer and journalist, who has contributed to the Tatler, the Spectator, the Times Literary Supplement, as a regular columnist for the Evening Standard, and as parliamentary sketch writer at the Times. He has also written a restaurant column for the Sunday Telegraph. In addition to his biography of Queen Elizabeth II, he has written biographies of Princess Margaret and the Beatles.
