John Donne (born 1571) is one of the most famous English poets. He was a soldier, scholar, and secretary, who was under royal patronage appointed as Dean of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

Katherine Rundell (born 1987) was brought up in Harare, Zimbabwe, where her father had a diplomatic post. When she was 14 the family moved to Brussels. She took her undergraduate degree at St. Catherine;s College, Oxford, where in addition to her studies she took to rooftop climbing. After graduation she was appointed a fellow in English LIterature at All Souls College, Oxford. She has written that the entry process included a three hour written exam on the single word ‘novelty’. Rundell published several highly successful children’s books before moving into biography.
